EDITORIAL CUTTING, STYLING AND COLOUR

How you benefit from editorial hair stylists in the salon environment.

Editorial hair is all about pushing the envelope and redefining the boundaries of hairstyling. It is a form of artistic expression in which hair stylists transform hair into stunning works of art that can complement fashion editorials, magazine covers, or advertising campaigns. Think of it as a fusion of sculpting, painting, and storytelling on a living canvas.

One of the key aspects of editorial hair is its departure from conventional and everyday styles. Instead, it focuses on conceptual, exaggerated, and abstract designs that convey emotions, themes, or narratives. Editorial hairstylists are true visionaries who possess an exceptional understanding of form, texture, color, and balance. They use a myriad of tools and techniques, such as extensions, wigs, hairpieces, and intricate braiding to bring their creative visions to life. Both Ben and Rosie, based in the Bristol hair salon, are actively involved with fashion week with Oribe and in 2022 Ben won the Global Creative Awards “Editorial Colourist of the Year” Category. Rosie has been selected as a finalist in the Creative Head ‘It’ List for Editorial Stylist in 2023 too! Our team of skilled hairdressers take pride in bringing creative haircuts and colours to Bristol and Clevedon.

RESTYLES

Why they can make such a big difference not only to how you look, but how you feel!

A hair restyle is not just a way to change up your look, but also a way to keep up with the latest hair trends. From hair colour to haircut styles, the world of hair fashion is constantly evolving and a restyle can be a great way to experiment with the latest trends and find the perfect look for you.

One of the most popular hair trends of recent years has been balayage. This highlighting technique involves hand-painting colour onto the hair for a natural, sun-kissed effect. It's a great way to add depth and dimension to your hair without going for a full-on dye job. A hair restyle can be the perfect opportunity to try out this trend, whether you go for subtle, natural-looking highlights or a more dramatic look.

Another hair trend that has taken the world by storm is the bob haircut. This classic style has been reinvented in countless ways, from the blunt bob to the asymmetrical bob to the long bob (or "lob"). A hair restyle can be the perfect way to try out this versatile haircut and find the perfect variation to suit your face shape and personal style.

But hair trends aren't just about cutting and colouring. Hair accessories have also become a major trend in recent years, with everything from scrunchies to hair clips making a comeback. A hair restyle can be a great way to incorporate these trendy accessories into your look and add a touch of fun and whimsy to your style.

Of course, not everyone wants to follow the latest hair trends. A hair restyle can also be a way to express your unique personality and style. Whether you go for a dramatic pixie cut or a vibrant hair colour, a restyle can help you find a look that truly represents who you are.

In the end, a hair restyle is a chance to express yourself, try something new, and keep up with the latest hair trends. Whether you're looking for a subtle change or a complete transformation, a skilled stylist can help you find a look that makes you feel confident and beautiful. So why not book an appointment today at our Clevedon or Bristol hairdressers and see where your hair journey takes you?

HIGHLIGHTS vs BALAYAGE?

We explain the difference between the two so you can see what’s right for you.

Not sure what the difference is? Let us help… Highlights and balayage are two popular hair colouring techniques that can transform your look by adding dimension, depth, and a touch of creativity to your locks.

Highlights involve lightening specific strands or sections of hair using foils. By adding lighter shades to your natural hair colour, highlights create contrast and depth, resulting in a vibrant and multidimensional look.

On the other hand, balayage is a hand-painted technique that creates a more natural and blended effect. This method allows for greater customisation and a personalised approach to achieving your desired colour.

Highlights tend to create a more noticeable contrast between the coloured strands and your natural hair colour. They can be applied throughout the hair or concentrated in specific areas to achieve your desired look. Maintenance for highlights typically involves touch-ups every 8-12 weeks.

Balayage, on the other hand, results in a softer and more subtle transition between your natural hair colour. The technique mimics the way the sun naturally lightens hair, creating a natural-looking, low-maintenance style. Touch-ups for balayage are typically required every 10-14 weeks.

Understanding the difference between highlights and balayage can help you choose the technique that suits your desired outcome and maintenance preferences. Whether you prefer a bold and striking look or a soft and natural effect, both highlights and balayage offer unique ways to enhance your hair colour and add a touch of artistry to your overall style.

To start your journey, book your free colour consultation where we will talk through all the options available to you, get you skin tested so you’re ready to go and then we can book your highlights or balayage appointment! Our team of skilled hair stylists in Bristol and Clevedon are ready to help!

WHY HAIR GOES ORANGE.

Understanding what happens to hair colour as it gets lifted and why toners are required.

Natural hair colour levels range from Black to Lightest Blonde and are labeled 1-10 on the left hand side. What determines this is the amount of eumelanin pigment that is present in your hair. More pigment results in darker hair, while less pigment leads to lighter hair. Think of it a bit like making a jug of gravy—the more granules you mix with water, the darker and thicker it becomes.

The red/orange/yellow column represents the underlying warmth or "undercoat" present at each natural level. This warmth becomes visible when hair is lightened, whether through permanent color, lightening products, or natural lightening such as the sun.

This is often not well known so people attempt to go from a dark brown to blonde and end up turning their their hair orange or yellow. There is only so much lightening that can be achieved in one go, without compromising on the integrity and health of the hair, so going form brown to blonde is a journey and a process.

Achieving cooler or natural shades also requires toners which counter act the warm red/orange/yellow tones by adding purples and violets. That’s why blonde shampoo is purple, to help neturalise the warmth and keep it looking clean and fresh.

If you’ve had a bit of a hair disaster trying something at home, we can help! You can book your complimentary colour consultation at our Bristol or Clevedon hairdressers so we can talk you through the stages of a colour correction.
